Mason's First Haircut (yes, officially!)

Ok--I did it! I went and got Mason's hair cut--finally! Today he turned 16 months, so it was very monumental! I got a little emotional right before we left the house but I was totally fine once we were there and everything was going well. Mason couldn't have done better! He just sat there as if nothing was going on. He did look around and moved his head several times toward the end, but no crying, freaking out, or any other horrible things that I imagined could happen. My Mom and I took him to SportClips, for lack of a better place, but they were nice and I liked the lady who cut his hair. Mom and Ang thought I should have had her take off a little more, but Wayne & I are pleased with the length--not too short, not too long.

Little Sweeper Man

Mason discovered the broom the other day. I never knew what fun a broom could be until I went to take it away from him. He let me know. Needless to say, he has his own child-size version now.

Tomorrow Mason will be 16 months old! We're going to try to finally go get his hair cut, so if we do, I will be posting before, during, and after pics (thru my tears!!!)

Andes Mint Cookies

Oh wow! I just discovered this recipe on Becky Higgins' Blog (scrapbooker extraordinaire!) and they sound sooooo good! I will have to try making these soon!

ANDES MINT COOKIES

3/4 c. butter (or margarine)
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 T. water

Melt in a saucepan over medium heat until melted and then add:

2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips, stirring until completely melted.

Cool for 10 minutes. Pour into a mixing bowl and beat in 2 eggs.

Add:
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix together and chill for about 45 minutes. Roll into balls (like 1 - 1 1/2 inches big), flatten slightly, and place on cookie sheet (In only use Pampered Chef baking stones). Bake at 350 for 10 minutes (for my oven, this is the perfect time, keeping my cookies soft; your oven may be slightly different).

When cookies come out of the oven, place an Andes mint on top of each cookie and allow to melt for a few minutes. Swirl the melted chocolate like icing. Allow to cool.

Mason's 2nd Halloween

Mason dressed up as Pablo the Penguin from the Backyardigans (a no-brainer) for his second Halloween. He had such a fun time! We met up with Angela and Cameron for the Goblin Parade in downtown Rogers to trick-or-treat in the afternoon, came home and (sort-of) took a nap, then headed over to Mimi and Grandpa's house that evening. We went to several houses in their neighborhood and got more candy that his parents are now being forced to eat. He loved going to the door to watch candy being handed out when kids would ring the bell. He got lots of clothes from Mimi & Grandpa, a great big cookie from Gigi, and a cute Backyardigans board book from the Moss family. Mason ate his first sucker that night--a banana flavored dum-dum. I think we've started something...oh well it was Halloween!

Angela and Lindsay and the Church Choir

Angela (my sister) and I, before going to the Walton Arts Center a few weeks ago (when we saw the Putnam Co. Spelling Bee)

Tonight my whole family went to church to see Fall Follies, a wonderful production the choir (in which Angela is in) put on as a fundraiser. It was so good! There were songs from Sister Act, the Altar Boyz, Nunsense, and my favorite, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? We just watched that movie today (for the 10th time--it happened to be on tv, go figure) When Mason gets older and/or if I drop a few other things I'm involved in, I would love to join the choir. I love to sing and it looks like a lot of fun. There are some really talented singers and their Christmas Cantata is wonderful each year!

Madame Butterfly

Wow! This was an awesome show! Mom, Angela, Chloe', and I went to see the Houston Ballet perform Madame Butterfly at the Walton Arts Center last night. It was beautiful and sad. Such amazing dancers--I don't know how they do it!

I've Been Suckered!

This was my yard 2 days ago!!!!! I've been Suckered! A friend of mine suckered me into donating to Arkansas Children's Hospital--what an honor!


Exerpt from The Morning News of NWA:

The Arkansas Children's Hospital Northwest Arkansas Circle of Friends kicked off their fourth annual "Suckers" fundraising campaign.
The campaign will go from Sept. 17 to Oct. 11, with more than 300 homes to be "suckered." More than 50 ladies are volunteering to help "sucker" their friends. The fundraiser works by volunteers secretly placing giant (three-feet tall) brightly colored suckers in the yards of those they know would like to help support Arkansas Children's Hospital. Those "suckered" then pay a donation for the sucker removal and, organizers hope they will recommend someone else to be "suckered."

Reflective... (& Updated "5" Quiz)

I was looking back on my blog and reading some old posts. As a person who has never kept a journal, (my scrapbooks have always served as my "journal") I realized how lucky I am to have documentation of my daily life--especially before I was pregnant with Mason and throughout my pregnancy (since most of my posts these days are nothing but Mason!) Sometimes it's hard to remember exactly what life was like just 2 years ago! Also, I'm still working on my pregnancy scrapbook and now I have instant journaling for the pages--what I was doing, thinking, & feeling at the time. Maybe someday I'll get the pregnancy book finished. I think I'm procrastinating working on it because then the pregnancy will be a solidified memory--no longer a fresh life-changing event that just happened. That may sound wierd to you, but if you're a mother, I'm sure you understand! Holding onto the image of your tiny baby as he grows each day is hard! So if my blog serves no other purpose, at least it is documenting those little everyday happenings that I probably wouldn't remember otherwise. Which is why I did it in the first place.

Maggie's Birthday Party

Mason was invited to Maggie's birthday party (my friend, Amber's adorable little girl) at Wilson Park in Fayetteville last Sunday. Mason had a great time. He got to swing, play with a bat and ball, see lots of doggies, eat a cupcake, and run around with some little girls! At the end of the party, he hugged each of the girls--some a little longer than they wanted to be hugged! What a sweetie. Of course he crashed on the way back home.
